University Grill & Pizza has occupied the same spot on Commonwealth Avenue since 1960, making it among Boston's oldest continuously operating pizzerias. Run by four brothers—Alex, Chris, Demetri, and Laz—who took over from their father Nick in 1997, it remains the only independently owned business on BU's central campus. Everything is made in-house, from pizza to brownies. The operation has stayed family-run across three generations, with the brothers citing pride in their work, customer relationships, and quality commitment as reasons for their longevity in a neighborhood that has transformed around them.
