Tacconelli's Pizzeria has been operating since 1918, when Giovanni Tacconelli came to Philadelphia from Italy and built a 20' by 20' brick oven. Since 1946, they have specialized in tomato pies made with fresh dough, little cheese, and a lot of sauce cooked in their brick oven. The restaurant is a one-oven operation where each pie is made fresh and to order.
